Charging lions and spear-bearing men may illustrate a wild hunt, but it is the precious metals that make up this dagger that reveal much more about Mycenaean life. Inlaid with gold, silver, and niello, the value of this bronze dagger shows how wealthy the kings of Mycenae were.
The stylistic components of this dagger come form various areas--the narrow waists and long hair of the men is similar to Minoan style, but the story-telling technique is similar to many works in the Ancient Near East. The scene displayed on the dagger testifies of the Mycenaean violent history of the people and the metals within testify of the society's prosperous economy.
